‘Top Chef: Last Chance Kitchen’ episode 6: Jason Stratton, Angelina Bastidas face off
On “Top Chef: Last Chance Kitchen” this past episode, we had something that could be considered a little bit of a shocker in Angelina Bastidas managing to prove herself as a worthy underdog. She defeated both Wesley and Gisele, and moved forward to the next round.
Was the challenge this time a little too much for her? While she fared decently in her showdown with Jason, shrimp was what did her in at the very end. With Jason, we saw here a case of someone who seemed to had lost maybe a little bit of his confidence and his voice on the show, but is coming into the webseries a little more inspired. When you consider that, you have to think that he may have an opportunity to cook through several episodes of the show without a problem.
As for the theme of this challenge, that was a little muddy: Cook using some stuff in your fridge. Both chefs ended up doing something teriyaki-based, and neither was all that exciting. We prefer tasks that are a little more outside the box and force the chefs to either do a very creative version of something simple, or something super-complex using ingredients that they have never really worked with before. Also for the sake of this particular episode, it probably does not help that neither Angelina nor Jason are the most compelling television. Both are certainly driven, but they’re not as concerned with being entertainment for us watching at home.
Anyhow, congratulations to Jason! You can watch his entire victory in the video below, and if you head over to the link here right now, you can get our review of the most-recent “Top Chef” episode from Thursday night!
