‘Call the Midwife’ season 5, episode 2 preview: Struggles for Charlotte Ritchie’s Barbara
For much of the season 5 premiere of “Call the Midwife” Sunday, we saw a story revolving around an ever-changing world, and also Trixie trying to find a new life for herself working part-time as a fitness instructor while keeping her midwife duties.
Moving forward into next week, Charlotte Ritchie’s character of Barbara could be more of the focus, at least judging from the official BBC synopsis below:
“Barbara experiences the biggest test of her career when a struggling dockworker’s wife is forced into a difficult decision about her impending delivery. Nurse Crane meets a new friend who promises great adventure but conceals a secret. Sister Evangelina is forced to take action when a mistake comes to light.”
There are obviously a few separate things going on, but all could be interesting and important in their own right. We’ll just have to see how the show plans on handling some of these different plotlines, and if Sister Evangelina is forced to do something that could actually lead to a little bit of a sea change at Nonnatus House. The last thing that we would want to see is any more of a dramatic turnover there, largely because this is something that we have already seen take place at the locale so many times already.
The next thing of great intrigue to us is going to be merely getting a shot to see what the premiere ratings are for the series on the BBC. We should have those tomorrow, and we certainly expect them to be solid.
