‘The Fall’ season 3: Gillian Anderson still open to continuing Stella’s story

For anyone out there wondering if Gillian Anderson’s busy schedule is going to eventually make her consider leaving “The Fall,” we’ve got a few simple words for you: Don’t count on it. Rather, the actress behind Stella Gibson seems to be more than intent to telling these complex stories for some time still.

In a new interview with the Guardian timed primarily for the release of the BBC’s “War and Peace” six-part series, Anderson (who has also worked on “Hannibal” and “The X-Files” over the past year and a half) made it clear that “The Fall” is beloved work for her:

“It’s my favourite. It has just been so huge for me. I find it so compelling and mysterious.”

The article claims that she would like to return for a fourth season if it is ordered, and she also fires back at critics who claim that the show is overly violent towards women or exploits the issue in any way:

“It’s unfounded. It’s not gratuitous in any way. Rather, it points to the fact that there is still so much violence against women in the world. There are so many other series that are drastically more violent and gratuitous than ours, but they get less attention for it because it’s in the context of, say, vampirism. Ours is so real, and its characters so recognisable, that it gets under the skin.”

Anderson does have a tremendous point there when discussing the violence; thanks to genre or style, we often grow accustomed to the violence on some other series.
