Golden Globes 2016: Ricky Gervais apologizes in advance for jokes
There was a part of us that was really hoping the Golden Globes were going to air this weekend. After all, that would have kept the show from going against “The Good Wife” or airing on the same day as NFL postseason. Alas, that was not meant to be. The show is instead not coming until we get around to January 10, and it is then that you will start to see some of the biggest names in TV and film honored.
At the center of all the festivities will be a man in Ricky Gervais who knows a thing or two about stirring the pot. After all, this is something that he has made headlines for over the years, and we don’t anticipate anything changing when he returns to the stage next weekend. He has a history of offending people, and in some ways is the answer to the movement where everyone gets out of shape about almost everything that is said in the modern day and age.
In a post on Twitter, Gervais seems to be prematurely accounting for the fact that he will upset some out there:
“Because I can see the future, I’d like to [apologize] now for the things I said at next week’s Golden Globes … I was drunk & didn’t give a f–k.”
This Globes will be a transition of sorts from the past several years hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who tended to be a little bit more lighthearted when it came to their humor. They did skewer a few people here and there, but did so without as much of the bite.
