Kathy Griffin strips down in Times Square with Anderson Cooper during CNN broadcast

We thought it would take at least a little bit longer for us to write about something controversial during CNN’s New Year’s Eve broadcast, but Kathy Griffin made short work ensuring that we had something new to talk about sooner rather than later!

The first forty-five minutes or so of the network’s broadcast was spent watching a variety of packages from Anderson Cooper’s hotel room, and also a segment with Don Lemon in New Orleans where he seems to be in a crawfish-and-beer heaven. When we finally saw Anderson and Kathy down in Times Square, she decided to strip down to an extremely skimpy ensemble and wander around, meeting a variety of people (and children) in the process. It’s not the first time Griffin has stripped down live on air, but it’s been a while.

Given that this is still very early in the night, we imagine that there will be some more great moments coming up by the end of the evening … or at least “great” using our own personal definition. This is the sort of show that does have a tendency to get a lot of attention for its randomness.

Was there anything that topped this moment when it comes to excitement? Well, how about raising a giant Hershey kiss (well, a fake one, anyway) at the stroke of midnight? Also, you have Richard Quest proclaiming in Rio that he looks like a “YouTube moment” while running around shouting at people. It’s going to be that kind of night, people!
