‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 9: Could there be a larger ‘Star Trek’ tribute?

Big Bang Theory -The winter finale of “The Big Bang Theory” was probably one of the finest episodes of the season so far, especially when it comes to some of the great parallels that they drew between Sheldon and Amy sleeping together for the first time to Howard, Raj, and Leonard all going off to watch “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” It was strangely a perfect tribute both to a long-simmering story thread and also a movie that has dominated geek culture in recent weeks.

So is there a plan in the works right now to do something with “Star Trek Beyond” this summer, a movie that fittingly is playing a trailer before “Star Wars” in some markets? It should be noted here that, first and foremost, there is a challenge when it comes to logistics here. That movie is airing in the summer, and there’s no way to line an episode of the show up directly with it, even if CBS actually has more investment in that franchise given that they are reviving the series on CBS All Access.

For the time being, we’d say not to hold your breath for a big tribute. As showrunner Steve Molaro said recently to TV Guide, the writers may feel like they’ve already done a lot with this franchise this season thanks to the story about Adam Nimoy’s documentary:

“We are big fans of both franchises. We did do a pretty big Star Trek episode last month with the Spock documentary and we had Leonard Nimoy’s son on the show, so Star Trek has been represented this season if we don’t do anything later.”
