‘Doctor Who’ 2015 Christmas Special: Alex Kingston still thrilled to play River
The ninth season of “Doctor Who” proper is now over, but there is still one more episode still to come: The 2015 Christmas Special! Here you will get a chance to see Alex Kingston reprise her role as River Song, and embark on a journey that is all sorts of fun. There could be some romance between River and Twelve, and to go along with that a lot of adventure. If you are a longtime fan of at least the new version of the series, don’t you have to celebrate the return of one of the best?
For Kingston herself, what she is the happiest about is that she continues to get opportunities to return to the show, especially since this was originally something that she did not think she would get an opportunity to do. For more, just take a look at some of her comments that she made in a new interview with the Independent in Ireland:
“I never imagined this character had any longevity at all. I thought she was just a beautifully written character in a two-episode story arc, but Steven had other intentions and it’s a great opportunity for anyone to play … Partly because it’s in this fabulous world of science-fiction, so you get to run around and fight aliens and monsters and have this quick-fire dialogue.
“I think any actress would love the opportunity to explore a character like that, so I feel extremely fortunate that she keeps being revived and inserted into episodes.”
Given the love that is out there for River, we do also assume that there are going to be at least some opportunities for her to come back even in the future after this.

Great to see River back and to go back in time a few years. No wonder the Doctor and River cannot follow their own time line, it’s even more complex when she has died. She cannot be his companion, but she is great as his wife.
