‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7 winter finale spoilers: Will Damon regret his past words?

Salvatore -

For most of “The Vampire Diaries” season 7 to date, the story has been about Lily Salvatore and the Heretics. However, that could be changing thanks to everything that we saw last week. With Lily now out of the picture, what happens to some of her “family” members? What about Julian? Also, is Damon going to come to terms with how he behaved towards his mother right before she died? He more or less told her good riddance, and judging from the flash-forward this may be something that still haunts him.

Speaking about this subject in previewing the winter finale to TVLine, executive producer Caroline Dries set up many different events in the episode, including just how Damon is going to have to come to terms with what he has done in this instance:

“In this next episode, Stefan is continuing his drive to kill Julian, and he manages to recruit Damon. But as the brothers start working together, Stefan starts to wonder, “What’s going through your head, Damon? Are you starting to resent basically spitting on mom’s grave when you had 10 seconds to tell her anything?” Damon initially tries to blow that off, but as the episode climaxes, he realizes that it’s not going to go away. … He needs to go through something big in order to come to that emotional catharsis.”

This winter finale will do more than set up the thought process for Damon, as it will also provide an integral role in setting up the entire second half of the season. There are some big surprises and new threats coming, so be on the lookout for some of them.
