‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Chris Hemsworth, Leslie Jones talk about Santa

Given that Leslie Jones did not exactly get a flurry of air time on this past episode of “Saturday Night Live,” we’re rather thrilled to see her featured in the promo below for this weekend’s Chris Hemsworth show!

The first thing to note here is the continued change in style from the norm. Last week with Ryan Gosling was the first time we saw the show move away from their ordinary promos of “hi, I’m a famous person and I’m hosting ‘Saturday Night Live’ with another famous person.” We’re getting more dropped into scenes this time, which enables a little more interaction between the host and the cast member, and it also signals that there may not have been any more stupid gags that everyone involved may have been able to come up with.

We like this promo, mostly because we’ve got some jokes in here about an evil crocodile that comes around every Christmas in Australia, how Thor is Leslie’s least-favorite Avenger seemingly, and also a little bit about whether or not she actually works at the ice rink outside of 30 Rock.

Hemsworth is hosting the show at an interesting time. He is probably more than aware that most people are mostly just looking forward to the Tina Fey / Amy Poehler show a little later this month, so he has the challenge of proving that there is still some great humor to be found in what he is doing as well. The musical guest is Chance the Rapper, someone who is probably not well-known to most viewers. Therefore, Chris will have more of the heavy lifting.
