‘Once Upon a Time’ season 5: Colin O’Donoghue teases Hook’s goal, Emma complications

Hook -

Moving into Sunday night’s midseason finale for “Once Upon a Time,” it feels fair to say that we are in a very perilous situation in many ways. Now that he has been possessed by the Dark One, Captain Hook now has reverted back to in some ways his old self, and there is one simple goal at the top of the list: The destruction of Rumpelstiltskin. With that, Nimue and the other Dark Ones have a goal of their own, and that seems to be to destroy all traces of goodness and light from the world.

Are these two stories going hand in hand, and is it possible that Emma will be able to save him? Speaking to TVLine, Colin O’Donoghue made it clear his relationship is going to be on the rocks, primarily because he has become so much a different person that she may not be able to crack that armor:

“It’s difficult. Because he has embraced the Darkness — not intentionally but because that’s who he is now — he has one overriding mission and that is to kill Rumplestiltskin, and he is willing to let the Darkness use him as a pawn and bring back all the other Dark Ones to do that, if it means he can send Rumple to the Underworld — and whoever else he’s willing to sacrifice. Much in the way that the Rumple character, when he was the Dark One, was willing to sacrifice all the people he loved to get whatever he wanted for himself.”

The parallel right now we can draw between Hook / Emma and Rumple / Belle is an interesting one. Through what happened to Robert Carlyle’s character, we know that there is a way for darkness to be removed from someone evil. However, at the same time we’ve also seen through the journey take so long that Belle is not okay to be with him on the other side. That is what Captain Swan ‘shippers should be afraid of right now.
