‘Downton Abbey’ series finale: New promo for Christmas Special!

If you have watched “Downton Abbey’ regularly over the years, we dare you to somehow not get a little choked up watching the new promo below for the show’s Christmas Special. While this special is airing on ITV December 25 (it’ll be coming in America in the spring), it actually seems to be set around the start of a new year.

There’s just something about starting a new year that is beautiful and symbolic in unexplained ways. It’s a chance to start fresh, have a clean slate, and realize that everything is okay in the world. For the residents of Downton, we imagine that in so many ways this represents a new beginning. This is an opportunity for them to move forward, realizing full well that not only have their lives changed, but the same goes for the Abbey and Britain itself. They can no longer go about living in the moment, thinking that their way of life will stay the same forever.

Probably one of the sweeter things about this promo, provided of course that you are a fan of some of the show’s couples, is seeing so many of them happy. Lady Mary finally has her perfect person in Henry Talbot, Lady Rose is going to return, and Mr. Carson now has Mrs. Hughes as his wife.

With all of this happiness, we don’t anticipate there being any sort of devastating end to the story that has everyone in tears. Does Julian Fellowes really want to be the man that ruined Christmas twice after what happened in the season 3 special? We’re betting not so much.
