‘Arrow’ season 4, episode 8 reaction: How will Oliver’s secret change relationship with Felicity?

Oliver

Arrow” has delivered a wide array of surprises through three and a half seasons, but on Wednesday night’s new episode the show paid off one of the biggest ones: The identity of Oliver Queen’s mystery child that was first introduced all the way back in season 2. The kid’s name is William (not Connor Hawke), and he lives with his mother Samantha in Central City.

Given that Oliver doesn’t plan to be gone now from his child’s life, he is thinking up ways now to spend time with the kid. What’s the twist? Well, at the end of the episode we realized that he is keeping this major bombshell from his life secret from the person who has meant so much to him in Felicity. Why in the world do this? At the moment, we really have no idea given that she doesn’t seem like the type who would judge or push away from him just because of the new-found family that he has.

While Oliver may have made this decision now, executive producer Wendy Mericle promised in a new postmortem of the crossover (per TheWrap) that this is the sort of secret that will only stay that way so long, and on the other side could be major trouble for Oliver and his girlfriend:

“True to what we’ve done on the show, if there’s a secret somewhere, it’s going to come out, and it’s going to have some serious consequences … We’re really excited about how that’s going to change things and it’s really going to raise the stakes and throw some wrenches into the relationship. So far this season, it’s been pretty smooth sailing, so we’re going to really mine that. There will be some fallout for both of them.”
