Fox developing ‘Rambo’ series with Sylvester Stallone, because they can
While we’re not entirely sure that anyone was asking for a series based on “Rambo,” you’re getting it … and of course, it’s coming to you courtesy of the people at Fox. If there is anyone who will try to revive a new franchise at this point, it’s clearly them. Just look at “Fatal Attraction,” “Minority Report,” “Urban Cowboy,” or even them bringing back their own former shows “The X-Files” and “Prison Break.” These people are not shy!
Do we think that they need to be a little bit choosier with some of their projects? Probably so, but that’s a different subject for a different time.
Here is what we can tell you about this “Rambo” project. Per Deadline, Sylvester Stallone is developing / executive-producing the potential series, which revolves around Rambo Sr. and his son J.R., who is a former Navy SEAL. There is no word at present as to if Sly will be appearing in the show itself, but our feeling is that it may be better to pass the baton now given his movie projects and the fact that the idea here is to appeal to a new generation.
While we’re sure that there will be some awesome action sequences in a “Rambo” show, the question we’re wondering to ourselves right now is rather simple: Is there any reason that we need to get this? We’re not sure it would find that much of a consistent audience, and based on the “Minority Report” ratings, movie adaptations are not exactly a slam dunk. That wasn’t even a case of people watching the show and bailing on it; almost nobody was watching from the get-go.
