Crossover November: Would a ‘Supernatural’ season 11, ‘iZombie’ pairing work?

We’ve made it, folks: The final edition of Crossover November is here! These have been a heck of a lot of fun to produce over the month, and maybe over the next few days we’ll get around to sharing what some of the results are to some of the polls that we’ve put up.

Today, we’re focusing more on “Supernatural” and “iZombie,” which is interesting to us given that the two CW shows do have quite a bit in common … even though they do have a few issues here and there that separate one from the other.

The case for the crossover – Let’s start with the obvious: Both shows are on The CW! Who doesn’t love a little bit of network synergy here and there? It does make a great deal of sense to pair the show together for the sake of ratings, and for the sake of humor. Both have plenty of comedy, and somehow, there are a few things here and there that do end up surprising Sam and Dean Winchester. Meeting someone like Liv could be high on the list for them, as they try to integrate themselves into this world.

There are two ways that we could see this working out: On “iZombie,” you could bring in the Winchesters to tackle a threat that is a little bit outside Liv’s jurisdiction. Meanwhile, for “Supernatural” the idea could be bringing aboard a story where Sam and Dean end up getting into “iZombie” stomping grounds, and maybe they bring that cast in as consultants! It could be a one-off, and given some of the other wacky stuff these shows have done, it could work!

The case against it – “Supernatural” is in particular a hard show to crossover; we’ve already seen what happens when they try to crossover with a spin-off pilot in “Bloodlines.” Also, they have so many other monsters in their own world that there is no real need to worry about the ones over on “iZombie.”

Ultimately, though, we don’t think that there is that much of a downside here logically or in terms of the story, unless of course you just don’t like one of the two shows. They’re both, after all, from the same network and the same studio. Not only that, but they even film in the same city!
