How ‘Longmire’ presentation brought Netflix executive to tears
While we knew that the executive producers of “Longmire” and the folks over at Warner Horizon did everything in their power to ensure that the show found a new home after its cancellation over at A&E, we did not know until now precisely the impact that their words and actions had.
The video below (via the New York Times) is a pretty excellent look behind the scenes at Netflix with Cindy Holland, the woman responsible for overseeing much of the service’s original programming. She explained in here that it was the passion of the “Longmire” team that not only reduced them to tears, but it had the same impact on her. The desire to work with people who care so much about the work is probably one of many reasons why the show found a home there. Since the time of this presentation, we know that it has since been renewed for a fifth season airing next year.
Even aside from “Longmire,” Holland also has a story in here about how they were confident about “House of Cards” almost from the get-go, and how they were not deterred from “Orange Is the New Black” despite premium cable outlets saying no to the show before it landed there. We do wonder if this is a decision people like HBO and Showtime regret, since it has become a cultural institution.
We imagine that we’ll have more specific news on the future of “Longmire” next year, after the show begins filming and some scripts start to be written out.
