‘Major Crimes’ season 4, episode 13 review: Sanchez has a big moment during reality TV case

Given how much “Major Crimes” caters to a very specific audience of crime TV lovers, we were not entirely sure just how the show would present reality television on Monday night’s new episode.

For the most part, we’d say that they had enough fun with the case to make us think that this was something more than just the writers pointing and laughing at the genre. It wasn’t so much a serious take-down as it was a way to really tackle some meat in Sanchez’s story. It brought back some memories of what happened in the past with the car crash, and his conversations with Chip were meaningful in learning that there was not much suffering. It helped bring some peace, and in some ways, the emotion of these scenes was the opposite of what you tend to think about reality TV. The show connected it all in a fairly interesting way.

Elsewhere tonight, Rusty’s making headway with Slider! He finally may get the interview that he wants, provided that he does a separate interview with the lawyer about the death penalty. It was a decent compromise that means that at least for now, he’s not getting any more roadblocks.

To us, the most frustrating part of the story right now is seeing Flynn largely benched, but kudos to the team for at least finding a few other ways to keep him involved with the story, including Sharon telling him to watch the reality show in question, and he was also able to pass along to Raydor the similarities between this particular case and the one that was haunting Sanchez.

In the end, we found this episode of “Major Crimes” relatively enjoyable, even if nothing particularly happened to propel the story forward in a huge way. Grade: B-.
