‘Downton Abbey’ season 6 spoilers: Christmas Special details highlight Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael
While you may have to wait until Christmas Day in order to see just how “Downton Abbey” is going to end, you don’t have to wait at all to get the answer to one oh-so-important question: How the story for said event is going to take shape.
Today, ITV unveiled the official synopsis for this key installment of the series, which suggest that Michelle Dockery and Laura Carmichael are in particular set to be front and center for a key story about the relationship between Mary and Edith, which came to a tipping point in the finale when (spoilers ahead!) Mary made it clear to Bertie that Marigold was actually Edith’s daughter:
“Mary endeavors to build bridges with her sister while Edith’s secret continues to pose a threat, despite having nothing left to lose … As Henry settles into the role of husband and stepfather, finding his place at Downton proves more difficult. Below stairs, Carson faces some personal challenges, which prove that even he is not invulnerable to change.”
ITV also confirmed today that you are going to see more of Lady Rose (Lily James) and Atticus Aldridge (Matt Barber), which means that you will really get a celebration of all things “Downton” past and present within the episode. It sounds ultimately to us like there will be fun moments, but also still some drama, heartache, and bittersweet feelings. We hope that most characters do find some sort of happiness, even though we are well aware that such things in this world are not assured.
