ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 5, episode 8 review: Does Olivia Pope have a new home?
As we started to get to the end of “Scandal” season 5 Thursday night, one thing is being made abundantly clear: Life was (once again) never going to be the same for Olivia Pope.
First and foremost, let’s spend a minute or two discussing the whirlwind journey that we had for this character over the hour. After it became very clear to Fitz her role in what happened with Rowan, a series of events unfolded that included her being locked up temporarily and interrogated. Eventually he determined that he trusted her and the two had nothing to worry about from that vantage point, but it admittedly took a long time to get to that point.
Was Olivia really ready to run into his arms after all of this? We’re not sure, and ultimately, it really doesn’t matter thanks to what we ended up seeing at the end of the episode anyway. Fitz has basically declared that she is now moving in with him and completely protected … which may only be partially true, since based on our own experience watching this show some of the biggest villains lie within the White House walls.
On the side, Fitz was working with Jake to have Rowan killed (again), which is hardly much of a surprise to anyone since it feels now like we are going down the same exact road the show did in the past. That’s the problem with everything with Rowan right now: It feels like there is very little ground for the show to cover at this point with the story. Hopefully, they can find some more in here soon. Grade: B-.
