‘The Flash’ season 2, episode 6 review: Zoom is here, and he is terrifying

Zoom -

The Flash” Tuesday night spent the majority of its run time setting up and teasing a showdown between Barry Allen and Zoom, but when the dust settled we realized that we didn’t quite mind at all. What the series did for the most part was extremely entertaining and even at times funny.

Of course, by the time that Zoom actually arrived, it was worth the wait. He was by far the most terrifying villain the show has introduced. He is completely maniacal and extremely powerful, even more so than the Reverse Flash. He is also out for nothing more than the destruction of The Flash, and were it not for Cisco Ramon shooting him at the just the right moment and weakening him, he would have succeeded. Even still, Zoom is a monster that has been more revealed than ever, and it does not seem as though he is going away now anytime soon. (With that said, we do think that he will be physically absent for a week or two.)

The big shock of the night, more so than the super-great montage of Linda Park training to try to pass herself off as Dr. Light, was learning that Barry seems to have lost the feeling in his legs as a result of the confrontation with Zoom. Where does this put him? It’s a good question, but we imagine that it is only temporary. He could use the time to hang out with Patty some more, though this is a big lie he will have to tell her to explain his condition.

All across the board with “Enter Zoom,” there was some sort of story going on. Linda and Iris were intent on proving themselves, Cisco used his Vibe powers to learn the truth about Harrison’s daughter Jesse Quick, and Joe and Dr. Wells had some choice words after the Zoom encounter.

The only weakness we can muster for now is that the show is clearly having either script or budget issues getting every actor around for a given episode. Why wasn’t Teddy Sears here for most of this? Given his opposition to the Zoom plan it felt like Jay Garrick would’ve had much more of a presence.

Still, “Enter Zoom” was a fantastic entry into the chapter-book of this series. We’re terribly afraid of this villain now, and excited for where we are heading next. Grade: A-.
