‘The Leftovers’ season 2, episode 6 reaction: Regina King talks mystery man

Leftovers -There were many powerful scenes at the end of Sunday night’s new episode of “The Leftovers,” and for the most part, we would argue that many of them were connected in some shape or form to Regina King’s character of Erika Murphy. First, we saw her stand up against Goat Man (as we like to call him) during the event for Evie and the other missing girls; then, we also saw her have a deep, passionate conversation with Nora Durst where she admitted that the wanted to leave her family and get away from the chaos of Jarden.

So what about that conversation with Pie Man, who we hopefully will also have another name for? Is he a father figure, a past love, or someone else? There are many mysteries surrounding this guy, and speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, King promises that it is going to be a surprising turn of events:

“It was someone that was very close to her at some time. It will be revealed [in the next episode]. And what happened between them will be totally revealed, too. And it’s jacked up, too. You just really have no idea. Damon [Lindelof] and Tom [Perrotta] are about to continue just scalping people — just ripping your wigs back.”

The great thing about this season is that if this was a year ago, we would be not so impressed (and nor would we care) about some guy who was living out in the middle of nowhere, dishing out a pie to a main character. It would’ve been just another day at the office that happened to include the Guilty Remnant and things getting constantly set on fire. Now, we’re completely aboard whatever it is that the show wants to do here. It’s earned that level of trust from us with some incredible storytelling.
