‘Downton Abbey’ season 6: At least one person is optimistic about film prospects after finale
The sixth season of “Downton Abbey” proper is coming to an end on Sunday, though there is still a Christmas Special coming up meant as a way to tie up the series once and for all. Will it truly be the end of the road for the likes of Robert, Edith, Mary, and the rest of the cast?
For one reason or another, there is continuous talk about whether or not there could be a movie someday, with a lot of it stemming mostly from the fact that the ratings are still there somewhat … and there is an institution out there in Britain (in the form of the press) that continues to like to speculate on such matters.
As for whether or not we will actually see it happening, we’re leading more towards “not gonna happen” given that we don’t think Maggie Smith in particular is interested, and she is a big part of the heart and soul of the show that it would not be the same if she did not want to be a part of it. Meanwhile, everyone has got busy schedules and a lot going on, so it could be difficult if your hope is to pin everyone down for a period of time to film it.
Interestingly, there is another star of the show in Lesley Nicol who disagrees with our notion, and thinks that filming could come together for a movie without a problem. Here is what she had to say recently to the Express:
“It would be tough getting everyone together for another season but it isn’t hard for a film because you are not all in the same bits. So it should be okay.”
We’ll have some further information for you on the show one way or another before it comes to a close, so stay tuned…
