‘Survivor Cambodia: Second Chance’ preview: Are Stephen, Joe squaring off in the game?

Stephen -

When you have a season of “Survivor” featuring all returning players, one thing that you have to be extremely aware of going into this is that there will be baggage. In one way or another, every contestant has it and it is your responsibility to figure out how to keep your own history from coming back to haunt you.

This is where Stephen Fishbach may come into some trouble going into Wednesday night’s new episode. He wants Joe out of the game, and the same goes for Ciera, who is now completely on the outs and desperate to make something happen. Stephen, per his confessional earlier this season, is desperate to do something to get rid of the “golden boy” since his decision to not do that when he had a chance in “Survivor: Tocantins” is one of the reasons he failed to win the game. (To be fair in retrospect, though, JT won so many immunity challenges at the end that we don’t know the path for Stephen had he voted JT out earlier in the game.)

Based on the preview below, there is going to be some resistance. Joe is going to find out the plan, and in turn will (of course) want to find a way to get Stephen out of the game. We hate to say it given our love for guy, but we’re worried about Stephen’s odds of making it through the next tribal council. The issue is that for people like Savage, Tasha, Keith, and maybe even his ally Jeremy, it makes more sense to have Joe around as a big target to hide behind. They also all have the ego to think that they could beat him in a challenge when the chips are down.

Stephen, meanwhile, is someone known for wanting to make some big moves. In order to make a blindside happen, he will probably need Abi-Maria, Ciera, Kelley Wentworth, Spencer, Kimmi, and at least one more person on board. Joe, Tasha, Savage, Jeremy, Keith, and Kelly Wiglesworth may not have the motive. Jeremy to us is the real swing here, given that he’s closer strategically to Spencer and Kimmi, but getting rid of Joe is detrimental to a specific plan he has.

Who knows? Maybe this is all misdirection and Ciera goes home, but the show is really trying to hype something up right now.
