‘The View’ brings on Carly Fiorina for an interview, and it’s awkward (video)
Are we ever going to be nearing a tipping point when it comes to bringing politicians on TV for interviews? We know why networks love doing them, since they are often controversial, combative, and it gets them a little more play in the spotlight than maybe they would otherwise.
For “The View,” this is admittedly something that they need right now. They’ve underwent sweeping changes to the panel over the course of the past few years, and at this point it has become a revolving door that people think they can just create a petition at any point they want someone gone. This is currently what is being done when it comes to Raven-Symone, though it has not gotten any traction.
Do we think that it was a deliberate ratings ploy when Michelle Collins called Presidential candidate Carly Fiorina’s face “demented” during a segment on the show? Not really, but we don’t think that the show hated the controversy that came as a result, or an interview that took place between Fiorina and the panel on the show this week. It was contentious, aggressive, and at times not so apologetic.
For Fiorina, we understand why she would want the publicity from the show, even in spite of what Collins and the panel said in a discussion of her. She needs attention for her campaign, and so far the biggest moment of her run was challenging Donald Trump over some offensive remarks he made about her appearance. This is clearly something that has worked for her before.
In the end, though, we yearn for the days when discussing Presidential politics and TV interviews were actually about the issues, not about back-and-forth conversations on someone’s appearance and frequent controversy on debate moderators.
