‘Downton Abbey’ season 6, episode 8 preview: Decision time for Michelle Dockery’s Mary
If “Downton Abbey” decided that they were going to end the series without any sort of resolution regarding Mary and her love life, we would be convinced that this is among the cruelest things to happen in the history of television. Luckily, we don’t quite think that they are this cruel. The ITV series is more than likely going to give you at least some sort of resolution to Mary’s story either in Sunday’s episode (which is technically the finale) or the Christmas Special to follow, and the photo above gives you our first bit of insight into what to expect in this installment: Doubt.
What is on the mind of Michelle Dockery’s character? At the moment, we have to presume that it in many ways begins and ends with Henry Talbot. He is a man who Mary definitely seems to care for, but during this past episode, she pushed him away after seeing what happened to his friend Charlie in an auto race. He may be willing to change for her, but does she want him to?
At the moment, we do feel reasonably hopeful that there will be some sort of happy ending for these characters on the show Sunday … but not necessarily in the way that you could expect. We still argue that Mary doesn’t need romance to be happy, but she needs to make this intention clear in order for it to truly be so.
No matter what happens, we’ll have a review of the next episode come Sunday night. Be on the lookout for it!
