‘Sherlock: The Abominable Bride’ video: See Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman in new teaser!
The fourth season of “Sherlock” is not premiering until either late 2016 or early 2017, but we feel like the BBC commissioned the special “The Abominable Bride” for this specific reason: It’s an appetizer. Sure, it’s not going to be canon with the rest of the series by and large, but it does still seem like it will be a ton of fun.
The new teaser for the show (which is airing on the BBC and PBS on New Year’s Day) is hardly significant when it comes to spoilers. However, it sets up more of the meeting between a Victorian Holmes and Watson, and sets off to tell an epic mystery that is appropriate for the time.
Outside of great costumes and performances from Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, it’s a little hard at the moment to know precisely what to make of this special just yet in terms of what we should be excited for. We’re not so much looking for heartbreaking drama or stunning moments so much as we are just fun. We want this to be something that marks a tremendous way to kick off the year, that we can talk to friends about as an excellent way to start off the year.
Filming for season 4 is slated to kick off in the spring, and at that point, you will get a chance to see many of these beloved characters transported to the present once more. Be on the lookout for further news in the near future!
