‘Major Crimes’ season 4 spoilers: Show boss on extension into February

Major Crimes -

In case you missed the news earlier this year, TNT did something rather surprising in ordering a wider array of episodes for “Major Crimes” season 4 than they have at any point during the series’ run … but does that mean that the network is gearing up for the end of the road? We wouldn’t say that.

Instead, it seems like more of what the network is doing right now is gearing up for a chance to do something a little bit different. Speaking to TVLine, executive producer James Duff made it clear that rather than be strictly procedural, the series is looking to tell in February this year a lengthy story that will span over from one week to the next:

“[After getting the order] we thought, Why not push ourselves to do a bigger story? So we’re doing that, and it will take five episodes to tell it.”

Duff also made it more than a little clear that he does not feel at all like the end of the show is near:

“TNT has made no secret of its desire to move to edgier fare … But I think they also want to do that without losing the audience they already have.”

While we’re not sure we see “Major Crimes” lasting another five years on the air, we do think that it will have a fifth season, much in the way that “Rizzoli & Isles” keeps going. The reality is that none of their “edgier” series are drawing big ratings in the way these shows are, and you want to have them around even if it is to just further promote the new programming.
