‘The Good Wife’ season 7, episode 5 review: Is there forward movement for Alicia, Jason?
There are few shows quite like “The Good Wife” that manage to make a story about student loans as compelling as this one does. Yet, this is precisely what we saw from the new episode of the show Sunday night. She and Lucca Quinn teamed up for a case all about trying to help a young woman who felt as though she was being taken advantage of for the benefit of a for-profit school, and it led to a wide array of different problems as a result. They encouraged students to effectively unionize against the school, which worked to lower their stock at a critical time.
However, at the same time this same move led to problems for Peter’s campaign, since he had already taken a very different position. It was a family conflict-of-interest crisis, and something that Ruth was not pleased about since she felt as though Eli was behind it.
Oh, and about the whole notion of Eli leaving this job … it’s not going to happen. He already made it pretty clear that he wants to stay, even though Alicia tried to fire him earlier in the episode. The majority of these stories were compelling, mostly because of how Alan Cumming continues to kill it in this role every opportunity that he can.
Also, what about Alicia seemingly asking Jason out for a drink at the hour’s end? Sneaky, Alicia!
As for the B-story for this episode, it involved Howard threatening the old ageism suit once more against Lockhart, Agos, and Lee to a slightly better effect. Sooner or later these actions could come back to bite him if he’s looking at this solely to get attention. Then again, at the same time he does have at least some points about mistreatment on the job. Episode Grade: B+.
