CBS gives ‘Limitless’ full season, ‘Code Black’ more scripts; ‘The Player’ cut by NBC

There are some late-breaking headlines today when it comes to some of what several major networks are planning to do with their shows, and we’re starting over at CBS.

First and foremost, here is the news we definitely saw coming: More “Limitless.” The network has officially ordered a full-season run of the movie adaptation after it has drawn some consistent ratings on Tuesday night. They are far from spectacular, but in the current TV climate, just doing okay Tuesday night at 10:00 p.m. Eastern is probably enough for most networks. Plus, we’re never going to complain about Jennifer Carpenter getting an opportunity to get some further work.

Also, CBS has officially ordered six more scripts for medical drama “Code Black.” That is less of a show of confidence than a full season, but it’s still a good sign that the show is in their plans for the weeks ahead. The ratings have not been great from the premiere onward, but they’ve at least been steady. That was enough to get this show a little more attention.

Now, the bad news: NBC has cut the first-season order of “The Player” to nine episodes. This show started low and has stayed low, and really just seems to be the latest in a run of Thursday-night shows at 10:00 p.m. that have gone nowhere for the network. It’s a shame for the cast and crew, but we honestly were never that optimistic about it becoming a hit, even with the presence of a big name in Wesley Snipes in the cast. NBC just needs something a little more buzzy.
