‘Shiptober: Should ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ season 7 bring more joy for Deeks, Kensi?
One of the things that has frustrated us with the series over the years is that while it has been clear that fans have wanted Deeks and Kensi, the show waited until all the way until season 6 to get them together. (Eric Christian Olsen did not join the show as a regular until season 2, so we cannot really say that from the very first episode there was hope for them.)
Now that these two characters are finally a couple, and seemingly progressing very well, it makes sense for us to start wondering just what the future could hold for the two parties from here. Do we have an opportunity to see them get married or at least engaged this season? We’re certainly not ruling it out, and in the latest edition of our ‘Shiptober series, we will make it very clear that there is a strong case to have this happen.
Why get them engaged this season? – The big argument is that this show, like many others, faces an uncertain future. You’re starting to get into the era here where actor contracts cost more and ratings go down, and when you look across the CBS schedule, there are only a few dramas consistently performing lower. This show is more than likely on the bubble, or at least in danger in being moved to Fridays. If you know that a wedding between Kensi and Deeks is something fans want to see, so why wait to start taking us down that road? The lead-up to the two dating was so long that you can afford a little bit of a shorter period before an engagement. Also, they already know each other really well from work, and Kensi’s even had the chance to meet Marty’s mom!
Why wait? – The only reason we can think of is that you’re hoping for at least one more season, and you don’t want to have a wedding until somewhere close to a series finale. Sure, we do understand that there are some out there who probably don’t love the couple as much as others, and maybe with that not everyone is rooting for the two to get married. While in some ‘Shiptober articles we argue both for and against a couple being together, there’s not really a point here. These two are clearly endgame for one another, they are extremely popular among most fans, and we don’t think the show is out to surprise us. With that, we think that timing is really the only obstacle for them.
