‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7, episode 3 preview: Stefan and Lily’s latest heart-to-heart

On Thursday night’s new episode of “The Vampire Diaries,” Stefan is going to put together more of the pieces regarding his mother, Valerie, and Damon … but only a few answers are hinted at in the latest sneak peek below.

The top priority for Paul Wesley’s character at the moment seems to be mostly ensuring that the Heretics leave Caroline alone after their lengthy period of torture, and that is something that he pleads to Lily about. He claims that he and Damon are not speaking, and therefore she should not be penalized for his brother going off the rails. Lily seems to oblige, but who knows if she is actually telling the truth? All we know is that negotiation is something we’ve seen associated with her quite a bit over the past couple of episodes.

We suppose that the larger reveal here for now is the one where Lily admits that she is responsible for sending Valerie in the direction of Stefan so many years ago, and the past that these two characters share could be very important to the story that comes ahead. After all, this is the sort of thing when you’ve lived well past a century: You have so many different skeletons in your closest, and many of them can come out and haunt you at almost any given moment.

All we can say is that for now, Stefan’s clearly got an uphill battle. Lily has more characters on her side, and she has the tactical advantage of Mystic Falls. Unless he comes up with a smart plan or forges some new alliances, this is going to be a struggle for him.
