NBC’s ‘The Voice’ preview: Andi & Alex compete against Chance Peña
We’ve never been much of a fan of the Battle Rounds on “The Voice,” and we feel like we’re even less of a fan when you are pairing a duo against a solo act like we’re going to see this week.
The video below is a Team Adam showdown between Andi & Alex and Chance Peña, a fifteen-year old singer who has shown potential despite being one of the youngest in the competition. The performance of choice (as selected by Adam and his new Lex Luthor get-up) is “Wherever You Will Go” by The Calling. It’s a pretty great vocal from all parties involved! Seriously. The three nail their parts, and it puts Adam in a tricky position.
The reason we don’t love pairing duos against solo singers is that it’s so hard to judge, and it’s really not fair to determine how two people perform versus one. Andi & Alex to us right now have more commercial potential when it comes to selling original music; meanwhile, Chance is probably going to be better at singing covers and making money on YouTube. They both have a place in the market.
In the end, we’d probably pick Andi & Alex if we are Adam, mostly because good duos on this show are so hard to come by. Plus, you know that someone’s going to steal Chance; young talent on this show is basically the Holy Grail, since they’re still raw and can be molded more into what a coach wants them to be.
We’ll have a review of tonight’s episode up soon, so stay tuned!
