ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 5, episode 4 review: Will Fitz be impeached for affair with Olivia?

The moment that Olivia Pope admitted to being a mistress of President Fitzgerald Grant on “Scandal,” you knew that there was going to be some consequences … including when it comes to Fitz’s status in the White House.

Impeachment talk started early in this episode, and it continued to spiral as more and more politicians came forward with their own demands. At first, it seemed like he was going to relent … but this is Fitz. He doesn’t like doing what other people tell him to do! He decided to take Olivia out on a date with the entire world watching, showing that he really gave zero you-know-whats to the media or the talk that someone could come after him.

In the end, we don’t quite know whether or not the President is going to be impeached, but we do know this: Mellie seems more than interested in having it happen. She’s got her own committee considering the idea, and we know just how stubborn and/or determined she can be.

Finally, let’s talk the best arrival of the episode: That of Marcus. He was instrumental back during “The Lawn Chair,” and his arrival on this episode meant that he could use his media savvy to help turn things around for Olivia. He unleashed Quinn on the press along with himself, taking the media to task for some of their specific language in the reporting on the romance. He’s a smart man, and we’re interested to see more of him on the show moving forward.

In the end, this episode was chock full of interesting twists, but at the same time it was steady enough that we were completely invested. One of the best of the season. Grade: B+.
