‘Shiptober: Will ‘Homeland’ season 5 bring Carrie and Quinn closer together?
For a show that is so much about action, espionage, and intrigue, it is somewhat of a surprise that the fan base has become so attached to the romances. Then again, these are not characters that we would see in romantic situations on other shows; they are often cold, hardened, and lone wolves. They’ve got agendas that often conflict with one another, and that makes any relationship nearly impossible. During the time that Carrie was with Nicholas Brody, how many moments were there where their relationship actually worked? Maybe occasionally they found some happiness in each other, but when it comes to them ever having a happily ever after? That was doomed from the start.
The good news is that compared to her and Brody, the relationship with Carrie and Quinn is one with a little bit of hope. However, at the same time the bad news here is that we are not exactly seeing a situation where the two are together anytime soon. Carrie has a new relationship, one that at least started the season as a stable one. Meanwhile, Quinn is even more detached thanks to the mission he went on at the end of season 4.
As a part of our daily CarterMatt ‘Shiptober series, let’s spend a few paragraphs thinking about whether or not there is some hope for these two characters as we dive deeper into the season.
The case for Carrie and Quinn – Quinn is quite possibly the only character on this show that fully understands Carrie and her plight, without at the same time completely giving into his own demons in the way that Brody did. He does care for her emotionally, and has a vested interest in protecting her … or at least he did. Putting these two together would be a way for them to take on future missions better if Carrie ever becomes a full-fledged part of the CIA again, and who knows? Maybe it would help the two settle in to something closer to a normal life. It’s certainly possible that all of the shock and awe that they have seen will lead to the two of them pausing and taking a look at what they want their future to be.
The case for them never getting together – At a certain point, the show may want to go down a route where Carrie doesn’t get together with someone she has some sort of professional background with, and there’s no doubting that this relationship is great because of the mystery. You wonder whether or not the two are ever in a position to be together, and while we think a relationship could work, would it in practice? There are so many great stories to tell for these characters individually, the producers for “Homeland” may just think that there is ultimately not much of a reason to get the two parties together.
