‘Arrow’ season 4, episode 2 review: Speedy’s crisis; Oliver’s political decision
For those of you who spent much of the summer wondering whether or not “Arrow” took it too easy on Thea Queen coming out of the Lazarus Pit, we feel like Wednesday night’s new episode did a good job informing us of just what sort of shape she’s in … and it’s not good.
In the wake of everything that happened to her last season, Thea showed during Wednesday night’s episode that she cannot be fully trusted with herself. She’s taking things too far, and showed it yet again tonight by setting Anarky, one of the latest villains to surface in Star City, on fire. Had he died, it would have erupted an entirely new war between Oliver and Captain Lance, who knows very well that Roy Harper is not the real Arrow and is out for some revenge.
The unfortunate news for Star City is that Anarky did not actually make it to the hospital, either; he escaped, and as a result of that, this is a villain that is still out there this season alongside Damien Darhk.
At the end of this episode, it turned out that Laurel decided that she wanted to bring Thea back to Nanda Parbat for some more “information” about how to help her … but there is another very-specific reason in mind. Of course, she wants to revive Sara!
The main “shocker” of this episode to us, meaning the story thread that was not confirmed before the episode, was the decision by Oliver to formally run for Star City Mayor after Jessica Danforth, an old family friend of Moira Queen, decided not to run thanks to Anarky’s involvement. This is throwing him into the spotlight like never before, and we have to say that it puts both him and Damien Darhk on quite the collision course.
Also, rest in peace Oliver’s flashback wig. Can’t say we’ll miss that. Episode Grade: B.
