‘Reign’ season 3 spoilers: Show boss confirms key Francis storyline
There are some MAJOR spoilers coming it for “Reign” season 3, so we want to get this warning out of the way before proceeding. If you’re fine with that, just head on to the next paragraph.
If you’re still with us, you probably know what is coming: Confirmation that Francis will in fact die this season. Maybe this is in reality not that big of a spoiler, given that what we’re really doing here is just taking this straight from history. It was easy to assume that this was coming, but having showrunner Laurie McCarthy actually confirm this before the season premieres on Friday is definitely a little bit of an unusual move. Usually, this is the sort of thing that producers tend to clutch until someone tries to pry it out of their hands.
So why is she confirming this news right now? Speaking on the subject to Entertainment Weekly, McCarthy says that she wants fans to be prepared for it, and to begin what is going to be the emotional process that brings us to the event when it happens:
“I wanted people to get used to it — there was no way around it in the storytelling … We’ve done shocking deaths and that’s not the tone of this story. I wanted it to be an emotional journey that we all went on and that we could all feel the highs and lows of, and I wanted it to be a love story. I didn’t want it to be something that shocked the fans or really anybody. I needed to process it, too.”
We imagine that this is not going to be the first time we hear this discussed at length, so stay tuned. Hopefully, we’ll get some other information on this subject soon.
