‘Downton Abbey’ season 6, episode 4 preview: Talking Maggie Smith – Sophie McShera stories
Throughout the past few episodes of “Downton Abbey,” we have certainly gotten a sense as to how many of the show’s characters are evolving and planning towards the future. Some are embracing change, others are stubborn, and some are simply out to preserve their legacy.
With the Dowager Countess, we feel like it is mostly about making sure that she continues to have her voice heard when it comes to the hospital, and also that she can influence others to her particular point of view. We’ll go ahead and admit that all of the stuff in regards to Isobel and the hospital does not happen to be a favorite for us this season, but we do love Maggie Smith, and thanks to that, we’re going to be happy with however much of her the show wants to give us.
Now, let’s talk about another character in Daisy (played by Sophie McShera) who is certainly front and center for most of the “change” that has established itself as the center of the series on ITV. She is a woman who has started to find her voice thanks to her studies, and that includes her standing up for what she believes in.
Unfortunately, vocalizing these beliefs may have landed her in some hot water with Cora, given how much we are hearing her push for something that may not become a reality in the end. Cora has tried to make it clear that she and Daisy are not necessarily on the same wavelength, but what Elizabeth McGovern’s character has failed to realize is that she may need to make things completely cut-and-dry if she wants to see some significant change occur.
