‘How to Get Away with Murder’ season 2, episode 3 review: The getaway; the siblings’ new revelation

HTGAWM -How to Get Away with Murder” hyped up Thursday night’s new episode as though it would be a particularly sultry one, and in some ways, the story did deliver. It also delivered on giving us further indication that almost the entire cast was at the scene of Annalise getting shot in the future. The big “reveal” there was that Nate pulled up outside where she was bleeding out, and had many of her students get in the car.

The case of the week tonight was all sorts of messed up, largely because it was a manslaughter case dealing with a guy who died seemingly because the sex he had with his girlfriend / mistress (Sherri Saum) was too rough. In another broad move by the Professor / lawyer, she managed to get her defendant cleared of charges, even though she knew that she was more-than-complicit with what went down. Meanwhile, she reduced the wife to tears and confessions on the witness stand.

In going back to the main story this season in the siblings, apparently they have a Jaime / Cersei thing going on! It’s another wrinkle into why they may have had the motivation to kill the parents, but we know already that this case is far from over. Also, the Rebecca story is still alive, and it turns out that Michaela’s new man Levi has a foster connection to her.

As a whole, we do think the show tried too hard tonight to go with a theme, and with the acting being as outstanding as it is here, was there any real reason for them to beat sex as a subject into the ground? Probably not, but the number of surprises and twists help to make up for some of the more tedious parts. Grade: B-.
