Ratings: ‘Blindspot’ holds; ‘Minority Report’ sinks; ‘Big Bang Theory’ wins

Ladies and gentlemen, we are on the cusp of the first major cancellation of the fall TV season, and it goes by a familiar name: “Minority Report.”

The Fox series ended up drawing a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic for its latest new episode Monday night, which marks a new series low and is the sort of thing that will make a network consider just pulling a show outright. We’re not sure why they thought reviving a franchise that was a solid-but-unspectacular hit at best was a good idea, but that is precisely what Fox did, and they are now reaping the “success” that goes along with it. Maybe they will keep the show around until the World Series, but it’s dead and buried by the time it comes back unless they just decide to air all of the thirteen episodes they’ve ordered.

Elsewhere, the news was slightly better for one new series in “Blindspot,” which held fairly well with a 2.5 for its third episode. At this point, we’d go ahead and say that it will get a full-season order. Given the crop of new programming elsewhere, why not go ahead and give it a chance with 22 episodes? Poor Jaimie Alexander having to sit in the makeup chair for that whole time…

Of course, the big winner of the night was “The Big Bang Theory” with a 3.7 rating, though we should make it clear that this is still a sizable drop from where the series once was. “The Voice” was in second with a 3.2, which is a decent performance for a show that also once charted better. (Singing shows wane; that’s the only explanation that we got for the time being.)
