ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 8 spoilers: When will Hayley Shipton return?

When ABC promoted Toks Olagundoye to a series regular for the upcoming eighth season of “Castle,” one of the things that was mentioned is that she will not be featured in every episode. She’s sort of in the same vein right now as Martha, someone who has really yet to factor into the story this season, but someone you know will at some point.

At the end of the two-part premiere “XX,” Toks’ character of Hayley made it clear that she is heading off to Chicago, which could be an easy way to write off the character … if it actually was the end for her. As it turns out, though, you will see more of her within a span of few episodes’ time. This was confirmed by co-showrunner Alexi Hawley, who said the following to TVLine:

“Hayley disappears for a couple of episodes, and then comes back in Episode 5 … Partly that was because now that we have this new dynamic, we thought we needed to focus on Castle and Beckett, and give Hayley a bit of a breather.”

When you do see more of Hayley on the show, she will be coming back in a capacity where she is working more with Beckett than Castle; therefore, it seems like the impulse with this character is just to ensure that she never does precisely the same exact thing twice.

In case you are wondering, recurring player Sunkrish Bala’s character of Vikram Singh will be sticking around the precinct as a tech analyst, mostly to assist Kate on trying to resolve the story set up in the first two episodes.
