‘Doctor Who’ season 9: Spin-off show reportedly coming to BBC Three

Doctor Who -It has been a while since we had a spin-off series for “Doctor Who” in any form, which makes us at least reasonably happy to report today that one of them is coming up soon! It was announced by the BBC today that an upcoming series entitled “Class” is coming to BBC Three, one that will be set in the world of Coal Hill School and will feature a variety of younger characters battling aliens, monsters, and so much more. This is meant to be a modern-day drama that is suitable for a younger audience than the flagship show, but we imagine at the same time that it will be appealing for all audiences.

Young adult author Patrick Ness has been confirmed to be the principal voice behind the project, even though Steven Moffat (the current “Doctor Who” showrunner) is also involved. Here is what he had to say in a statement on the subject:

“I’m astounded and thrilled to be entering the Doctor Who universe, which is as vast as time and space itself. There’s so much room there for all kinds of amazing stories, and to work with Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin to find a place to tell one of my own has been an absolute joy. I can’t wait for people to meet the heroes of Class, to meet the all-new villains and aliens, to remember that the horrors of the darkest corners of existence are just about on par with having to pass your A-Levels.”

While we have no idea at the moment what the quality of this show is going to be, for now, the gut reaction is to be happy about this. Why wouldn’t we be? It is a chance to see more of the franchise on the small screen, and we miss other spin-offs a la “Torchwood.”
