‘Blindspot’ gets nine more scripts, inches closer to full-season order from NBC
Could “Blindspot” end up being the first show of the fall season to get a full-season pickup? Based on some of the early buzz that is out there, it is looking more and more like this is a distinct possibility.
According to a story from The Hollywood Reporter, NBC has ordered nine more scripts of the series, which will give them a chance to see what the writers have in store for a full batch of episodes. This is not necessarily a guarantee that the series will grab anymore, but it is a sign of good things to come. It would take a ratings catastrophe moving forward for something to change things and there’s not much danger in that happening.
As of right now, the Jaimie Alexander series is far and away the most successful new entry for NBC, drawing a 3.1 rating in the key 18-49 demographic for its premiere, and then adding 1.4 to that after the fact in live+3 data. A 4.5 with that information calculated in makes this one of network TV’s top scripted shows behind really only “Empire” and “The Big Bang Theory.”
The problem that comes into play here is consistency. This is a series that, at least for the time being, is benefiting heavily from the fact that it has only aired one episode. Will the marketing campaign be enough to make people keep watching? While we feel like the majority of reviews for the show have been positive, we have not heard anything that suggests that this is going to be an “Empire” sort of phenomenon. A more appropriate comparison seems to be “The Blacklist” where it has a healthy amount of buzz and the story is solid enough to keep most of it’s viewers.
