Netflix acquires ‘Jane the Virgin’ before season 2 debut; ‘Zoo’ also now online

For some time, Netflix has established itself as a real stalwart of programming from The CW. Whether it is “Arrow” or “Supernatural,” many of the network’s top-rated shows can be found and streamed there in numbers. It’s a nice way to boost these shows’ ratings, and get them on a playing field that is at least close to being level with the big boys.

Now, you can officially add “Jane the Virgin” (more or less) to the list. The streaming service and CBS Television Studios (who produce the show) have worked out a deal to have all of the first season’s episodes available for streaming on Monday, October 12, which just so happens to be the day that the show is premiering on The CW with season 2. We feel like this is the sort of show where if you’re looking for something different, you’ll give it a shot. Also, Gina Rodriguez won the Golden Globe for a reason, and it is still insane that she was not nominated for an Emmy in the role.

Meanwhile, CBS also confirmed today that the first season of “Zoo” is officially available for streaming now. This is obviously a quick turnaround for a series that really just ended earlier this summer, and there is a reason for it: an especially rich / robust streaming deal that was reached to provide more content to Netflix for a larger price tag. CBS is profiting big on this, and the deal will help to potentially get the show a second season. (It’s possible that CBS is waiting to gauge the show’s streaming success before making a decision.)
