‘The Muppets’ subject of latest One Million Moms boycott

Who knew that One Million Moms would find something to hate in the Muppets of all things? There are some controversies we just did not expect to see, and one revolving around a conservative organization going out of puppets just happens to be one of them.

In a post on the organization’s official website, they have announced that they are going after the ABC revival of the franchise (which, for the record, we found hilarious) for the reason that they feel like the show has drifted in too far of an adult direction, and they would like to see that the show ends because of it:

“The mature version of “The Muppets” will cover a range of topics from sex to drugs. Miss Piggy came out as a pro-choice feminist during an MSNBC interview. The puppet characters loved by kids in the 1970s and 1980s and beyond are now weighing in on abortion and promiscuity.

“ABC hopes children watch the show and predict they would enjoy some of the humor, but 1MM would disagree. It is not the show it once was. ABC has ruined “The Muppets.” How many parents want to explain the punchline of sexually charged jokes to young children?”

Here is our counter to this argument: If you look back at “The Muppet Show” or “Muppets Tonight,” many of the past TV projects featuring the characters have been catered to adults and children alike. While there is a risque joke here or there, we don’t really think it is that different of a show. It’s not all “Muppet Babies” or some of the other movies that catered mostly to kids. We feel like the Jason Segel movie recently also went after a broad audience.
