‘How to Get Away with Murder’ snagged by Netflix before season 2 premiere
We knew that it wouldn’t be long now before “How to Get Away with Murder” found itself some sort of exclusive streaming home, and it is probably the best home that the show could have in Netflix.
Today, it was announced that the streaming service has acquired the entire first season, and just to make that all the better, it is available in its entirety online. That means that if you are especially diligent, you may be able to catch up in time for the season 2 premiere on Thursday. There are only 15 episodes as opposed to the 22-24 for most network shows, and they are so stuffed full of twists that they make for perfect binge-watching TV.
Does streaming really help a show achieve more success on network TV? This is a question that we have long debated, since there is always a thought that for some, they may just choose to wait until the end of a season and then just binge all of it without commercials a little bit later. If you have a show that is only very good, we feel like this is something that you probably do worry about at least a little bit.
However, we’re not so sure that this is an enormous concern in the event that your show is great. You have to have so much confidence in your property that it almost makes viewers impossibly impatient to see what it is going to happen next, and you can convert streamers to live viewers. This is precisely why “Breaking Bad” became such a huge hit, and Netflix has also been an ally in shows like “The Walking Dead” and “Scandal,” a show that like “How to Get Away with Murder,” is executive-produced by Shonda Rhimes.
