‘The View’ continues its make-good push towards nurses
At this point, it really would not be “The View” if there was not controversy associated with the show. There was drama all summer surrounding the new panel, and they worked extremely hard to get Joy Behar back on the show.
With that in mind, it only seems ironic that much of the negativity surrounding the show now revolves around comments that Behar and new panelists Michelle Collins made earlier in the week about nurses after Miss Colorado Kelly Johnson during the Miss America pageant over the weekend used the talent portion of the competition over the weekend to deliver a monologue about being a nurse. Since the comments first came out, we found it mostly being a case of two women who thought they had a really funny statement to make in their heads, and it came out in a very different sort of way than they intended.
Ultimately, they have to realize now that they are in the age of internet outrage, and if there is a chance that your comments can be taken in a negative way, you probably want to rethink saying them. It was ultimately easy to draw an assumption that Collins and Behar were mocking nurses, and they’ve since felt the ramifications. Many nurses were offended at the implication that it takes no talent to be a nurse, and the show even ended up losing sponsors over the whole ordeal.
The two women already apologized for the remarks, but on Friday’s edition of the show they actually brought real nurses out onto the show for a further discussion about the profession and to debate whether or not they felt respected for what they did. Of course, there was another apology for it.
In the end, it’s just another week for “The View,” and they have another group of people who may cringe anytime that patients are watching their show in hospital rooms.
