‘Downton Abbey’ season 6 trailer: Mr. Carson, Mrs. Hughes’ relationship status and more

The more things change on “Downton Abbey,” and the more than certain people still try to keep things the same. With this, we are specifically referencing Mr. Carson more than anyone else. He is someone who has remained steadfast and set in his ways through the entirety of the show so far, and clearly he feels no need to change his mind now even though his relationship with Mrs. Hughes has clearly changed.

As the new PBS trailer reveals below, Carson is intent on referring to her only as Mrs. Hughes rather than “Elsie” at work, and wants to keep mostly everything the same. However, Robert is starting to open his eyes more to the changing world around him. For example, does he really need to continue having an underbutler, and is estate life something that is going to continue to hold up? Also, let’s spend a minute talking about the hat in the video below: It’s spectacular.

This sixth season will feature finally many characters, whether it be Edith, Mary, or members of the staff, finding their place in the world and starting to move forward. We see many characters splintering off in many directions, and starting to plan out how they want to be challenged over the course of the rest of their lives.

Ultimately, we imagine somewhat of a teary ending to the story, but something that also has made it worth such a lengthy journey to get there. The new season will premiere in PBS in early January; meanwhile, ITV viewers can expect the show starting Sunday.
