‘Arrow’ season 4 spoilers: Laurel will tie heavily into Sara Lance’s resurrection

Black CanaryFor some time, there has been reason to be excited about “Arrow” season 4 if you find yourselves a proponent of the Laurel Lance character. She is someone the show made into the Black Canary after great anticipation last year, and it allowed her to experience some of the highs and lows that Oliver Queen has been going through for years.

Not only was it awesome to see Laurel kick a little butt and take names, but we also had some appreciation for how the character was handled even outside of the mask. Her apartment wasn’t getting invaded and/or destroyed every couple of weeks by random bad guys, and the show avoided the notion of giving her a love interest just for the sake of doing so. She’s instead discovered more of herself, and when someone does potentially enter her life down the road (it’s be strange to never see it explored), it will be more as a compliment rather than a necessity.

In the early going of season 4, Laurel’s story will in part be about bringing Oliver back into the Team Arrow fold, and then also dealing with Sara. As executive producer Marc Guggenheim notes to Entertainment Weekly, she is going to be essential in bringing her sister (played by Caity Lotz) back to life. This will be a tedious, emotional process, and something she deals with just fine:

“[Sara’s resurrection] very much comes about because of decisions that Laurel makes and choices that Laurel will then have to live with … The episodes dealing with Sara’s return are amongst probably the heaviest material that we’ve had for Laurel. We’re using Sara’s return to really get underneath not just Laurel as a person, but the relationship that she has with Thea and the friendship that she has with Oliver.”

Episode 5, for those curious, is the one featuring the resurrection of Sara and also our one-shot appearance of Matt Ryan as John Constantine, something that will hopefully be seen as a great parting gift to fans of that character’s NBC show.
