‘The Leftovers’ season 2: Latest trailer teases more mayhem in Miracle, Texas
With us coming closer to the season 2 premiere of “The Leftovers” on October 4, HBO is starting to really ramp up their promotional efforts … and that in part includes them releasing a new trailer via TVLine.
In this preview, the biggest thing that you can see here is that the whole notion of peace and understand in the town of Miracle, Texas is all but an illusion. After the events of season 1, Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux) obviously feels like it is time for a change. Therefore, he moves his family and Nora Durst (Carrie Coon) down with him to the town, which is famous for having a town over over 9,000 residents but zero departures. There’s something special about the place, and there’s a logjam even to get into the community.
After starting to put down roots, though, Kevin starts to realize that not everything is as it seems, and there are secrets in this town that nobody wants to see get out.
Creatively, “The Leftovers” is a strange phenomenon in how we are continually excited to see the show, and yet when we are watching it, we mostly just feel depressed. This was a huge part of the first season: Simply watching almost on a loop the sort of despair that many of these characters were experiencing as they struggled to move on after the departure.
The biggest reason we’re hopeful? Damon Lindelof remains one of our favorite writers in the business. With him involved, we have to think there is hope for it to be something truly great.
