‘Silicon Valley’ season 3: Firefox founder wrote own version of premiere script

Silicon Valley -

Just in case you were looking for some indisputable evidence today that extremely rich, successful people are TV super-fans just like everyone else, then you don’t have to look any further than the fact that the man behind Firefox has written an entire script for the “Silicon Valley” season 3 premiere … even though it is not the actual script. In other words, Blake Ross is really into fanfiction.

Ross himself was one of the first to make this announcement in a post on Facebook, sharing the script (which you can view here) along with the following message:

“I couldn’t wait 8 more months for season 3 of Silicon Valley to start, so I spent the past 48 hours writing my own episode. It picks up where season 2 left off.

“This is my first television script ever, which means it’s probably the roughest draft I’ve ever shared. I plan to do this a thousand more times until I figure out the medium. Until then, I’m taking a page from all those tech companies who wait ’til the Friday night of an Apple launch to quietly announce that they’re replacing their privacy policy with a Snickers wrapper:

“I’m shipping while you’re all at Burning Man.”

We won’t spoil Ross’ script much here, but we will say that it involved Richard having to interview people who are effectively candidates to be his replacement. It’s a funny idea, and while you could argue that it needs more off-the-wall humor, he does a pretty good job of capturing the tone of each one of the characters. It feels like a really rough draft for something that would actually be written.

Now, we’re going to be eagerly awaiting what the team over at Internet Explorer comes up with.
