‘The Walking Dead’ season 6 spoilers: Is Negan finally coming?
To us, it feels pretty much certain that Negan is the character that most fans on “The Walking Dead” are either very excited or very anxious to see. He is one of the most notorious people in the entire Robert Kirkman comic series. However, at the same time he’s not exactly known for spreading peace and love. Many people are not going to be pleased with seeing what he ends up doing on the show, provided that it is anywhere close to what happens in the source material.
Unfortunately, we cannot tell you for sure that Negan is coming on season 6, but there is some information coming out now that makes us very much think he could be coming. According to TVLine, the series has put out a notice for a guy named “Rich” (they always use code names for this show), someone who is in his fifties, has a serious mean streak, but also still has a certain amount of charm about him. No word on his weapon of choice.
Given that this casting notice is recent, it feels pretty clear that this character, whoever he is, will not surface until later on in the season (think next year). We know that we are in a place now where Negan could turn up, but we ultimately hope that they change things up slightly from what happens in the comics. Otherwise, everyone just knows what is going to happen.
We’ll have some other news about this particular casting as it comes out…

Regardless of how Negan is handled in the show I’ll be happy to see the F-word not coming out of his mouth every other syllable like it did in the book. I’ll grant it gave him an overwhelming manufactured boorishness that you expect in stereotypical movie bullies or your typical bad guy WWF wrassler types, but it’s far from the casting call of “has a certain amount of charm about him”.
What makes Negan interesting versus someone like the Governor is that he does not manipulate. He tells you that he’s coming at you head on for not giving him what he wants, then he comes at you head on with full unrestrained brute force, then makes fun of you afterwards. If you do somehow turn him back once, he comes back meaner and angrier. Unlike the Governor’s followers, who were duped into what they did, Negan’s people know exactly who he is and simply choose to have him mad and directed at other targets than themselves.
The problem is that you need to slog through at least half a season of a predictable rehashed Ricktatorship story arc before Alexandria is sorted out enough for Negan to show.
